Our Commitment to Sustainable Forestry

We are proud to be partnered with, and certified by, leading organizations in sustainable forestry, including the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC), the Forest Productivity Cooperative (FPC), and NC State’s Tree Improvement Program (TIP). These partnerships ensure our timberlands are managed with transparency, biodiversity, and long-term sustainability in mind, so wood from Jordan Lumber meets the highest environmental and ethical standards trusted by architects, builders, and conservationists worldwide.

Science-Driven Forest Growth

(In Partnership with NC State University)

Tree Improvement Program:
We collaborate on breeding superior loblolly pine seedlings—trees that grow faster, straighter, and stronger. Over 60% of southern pine plantings today come from this program’s advanced genetics.

Forest Productivity Cooperative:
We work with scientists and foresters across 24 million acres to apply sustainable forest management methods. Jordan Lumber uses this cutting-edge research to optimize forest health, increase yield, and reduce environmental impact.

Technology & Tradition:
Our state-of-the-art sawmills use laser-guided systems and low-emission kilns to maximize lumber yield with minimal waste. By combining tradition with innovation, we’ve tripled lumber output per acre compared to 25 years ago—while using fewer resources.

1.2 Million Trees Planted—Every Year

Reforestation is at the heart of our business. We plant over 1.2 million trees annually, re-establishing Southern Yellow Pine forests across the Carolinas. We don’t just replenish what we harvest—we invest in the future of every acre we manage.

Landowner Assistance Program:
Jordan Lumber works hand-in-hand with private landowners through our Landowner Assistance Program. We help develop forest management plans, guide sustainable harvesting, and coordinate replanting with high-performance seedlings. We also help landowners access cost-share programs like the Forest Development Program through the NC Forest Service.

Promoting Biodiversity

Healthy, diverse, and sutainable forestes provide critical habitat for wildlife. By incorporating decades of research and operation experience, we sustainably grow vast swaths of timber while conserving important environmental attributes of these ecosystems. Throughout our southern ownership, we work to maintain or enhance diverse wildlife habitat conditions and provide a home for terrestrial and aquatic biodiversity, including a large number of federal and state-protected species and species of concern.

Forest Management

We maximize wood growth and value by practicing intensive forest management on all of our ownership in this region. Our even-aged, managed fine stands are generally harvested when they reach 25 to 35 years in age, followed by site-preparation methods tailored to ensure successful regeneration of each unique harvest area. We plant our pine seedlings in rows by hand or using machines; once these trees are between 10 and 15 years old, we thin the strands to reduce competition among the remaining trees and accelerate their growth into quality sawtimber. The result is a continuous cycle of sustainable forest management.

Our Commitment To Sustainability

At Jordan Lumber & Supply, our commitment to sustainability is deeply rooted in our legacy. As a Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) certified company, we uphold rigorous standards for forest management that emphasize ecological responsibility, transparency, and long-term forest health. This certification ensures that our operations meet global best practices in sustainable forestry.

We plant approximately 1.2 million trees every year, reinforcing our forests with high-performance Southern Yellow Pine seedlings. Our reforestation practices aren’t just about replacing what we harvest—they’re about enhancing the value and health of our forests for generations to come.

Our commitment to science-driven forestry is reflected in our partnerships with NC State University through the Tree Improvement Program and the Forest Productivity Cooperative. The Tree Improvement Program helps us utilize elite loblolly pine genetics that lead to faster-growing, more resilient trees. Meanwhile, the Forest Productivity Cooperative allows us to collaborate on sustainable silviculture practices, optimizing timber growth while maintaining soil and ecosystem health across millions of acres.

Beyond our own lands, we support local landowners through our Landowner Assistance Program. We offer reforestation support, sustainable harvest planning, and guidance on securing cost-share assistance from the North Carolina Forest Service’s Forest Development Program. Through this partnership, we help landowners maintain productive, healthy forests across the region.

Our commitment to efficiency and innovation also extends to our mills, where laser-guided systems and low-emission kilns help reduce waste and increase yield. Today, we produce more lumber per acre than ever before—while consuming fewer resources.

At Jordan Lumber, sustainability isn’t a trend—it’s a promise. We’re investing in forests, in communities, and in the future of responsible forestry across the Southeast.
